Bring Your Books Current, Accurate, and Organized
Months of unreconciled transactions, missing records, and inaccurate categorizations don't have to carry into the next year. Archer Lewis brings your books current and accurate, then keeps them that way.
Our Approach
A common situation, and a fixable one.
Neglected books are one of the most common situations we work with, and one of the most fixable. Whether you've fallen behind by a few months or a few years, Archer Lewis assesses where things stand, reconstructs what's missing, corrects what's wrong, and delivers clean, accurate financial records you can rely on. Beyond catching you up, we put the right processes in place so your books stay current going forward.
What's Included
What accounting cleanup actually involves
Cleanup isn't just data entry. It's reconstruction, reconciliation, and process improvement done in the right order.
-
Books Assessment
We start by understanding how far behind you are, what records exist, and what's missing, before we touch anything.
-
Transaction Reconstruction
Missing or incomplete transactions rebuilt from bank statements, receipts, and supporting documentation.
-
Account Reconciliation
Every account reconciled to bank and credit card statements, so your books match reality.
-
Expense Categorization Review
Miscategorized expenses corrected and recategorized accurately, so your financial statements actually reflect your business.
-
Prior Period Corrections
Prior period errors identified and corrected, with clear documentation of what changed and why.
-
Process Setup
Once your books are clean, we put the right processes in place to keep them that way going forward.
-
Handoff to Ongoing Services
Cleanup naturally transitions to ongoing bookkeeping or accounting services: same team, no restart.
Clean books lead to better decisions.
Operating on inaccurate books means making decisions on unreliable information, from tax filings to cash flow visibility. Archer Lewis works to get your books clean as efficiently as possible, then keeps them that way.

Common Questions
What businesses ask before starting a cleanup.
As far back as you need. We've reconstructed records going back several years. The further back you go, the more documentation we need (bank statements, receipts, invoices), but there's no hard limit on how far back we can work.
Some involvement is necessary, particularly for transactions we can't categorize without context. We minimize what we need from you, ask questions in batches rather than one at a time, and work as independently as possible so the process doesn't consume your schedule.
Bank statements, credit card statements, and access to whatever accounting software you're using, or your records if you haven't been using software. We'll tell you exactly what we need after the initial assessment.
You'll have clean, accurate books and a clear picture of your financial position. From there, most clients transition to ongoing bookkeeping or accounting services with the same team, so there's no restart and no loss of context.
It can. If prior year returns were filed on inaccurate records, there may be amended returns to consider. We flag anything significant we find during cleanup and work with our tax team to assess whether corrections are needed.
